Some wounds take a long time to heal…

A summer in their family Aspen cottage sounds just like the thing to help Elena Wolverton get over a tragic accident. Her body needs to recover, and so does her soul.

Elena’s sister Vivian brings a friend along for

the week, and Porter Rowe is the stuff of dreams. The stuff of Elena’s dreams; awakening her to longings she hasn’t felt before.

Elena knows a man like Porter could finish with what’s left of her, break all that remains. Or he could help her forgive, forget, and have a second chance at happiness.

Stroke of Midnight is a poignant tale of love and loss. The love scenes are tasteful and well written. It surprised me that in such a short story Red Garnier makes her characters deep and fully developed. I was very impressed with all aspects of Stroke of Midnight and am eagerly looking forward to reading more from Red Garnier.

"Look who came out to play today," Vivian said, clearly delighted at the sight of Porter's rigid cock as he stepped into the water.

When Elena turned, it was to watch him sink up to his waist, his tanned, muscular torso gleaming like polished gold under the sunlight. He looked so mesmerizing, like Poseidon, ruler of the seas, masculine and virile and strong. And she…she was melting all around him. She was the water. The mist.

Vivian dipped her head under the water only to pop up before him a few seconds later. "Hey." She clung to his neck, and Elena tried very hard not to look, even harder not to despise her sister. Besides, he was Vivian's, not Elena's. Elena should just swim.

Porter unwound Vivian from his body several times, pressing her arms to her sides. "Behave," he said sternly.

"You're no fun at all." Vivian pouted prettily. "I knew I shouldn't have broken up with Rick."

"Then kiss and make up, Viv," Porter countered, slicking his damp black hair backwards, wanton rivulets of water clinging to his chest and arms when he did so.

Vivian frowned at his words, but she always somehow managed to make even a frown look sexy, at least Elena thought so. Perhaps the salons and beauty treatments weren't such a wasted time after all. "I will make up with him. I told you I would," Vivian reminded him, then she smiled. "I just want to make him jealous, make him want it a little, you know how I am, Porter."

Porter's gray eyes landed on Elena. She quickly looked away, pretending to be engrossed in the scenery around her as she floated around, her body getting accustomed to the temperature.

"You all right, Elena?" Every time he spoke to her, she feared she'd swoon by the husky sound of his voice.

She opened her mouth to speak.

"She's fine," Vivian answered, pressing her breasts to his pecs, fingers linking behind his neck. "I know what you want, Porter."

One of Vivian's hands dipped into the water, and Porter stiffened. "You're hard. You want this, don't you, big boy?"

Elena's heart raced as she watched Vivian stroke him, the movements of her arms slow but sure. Porter clenched his jaw and lips, as if he were inwardly resisting.

Elena's body hurt. Inside and out. No more cold, she felt as if her skin had caught fire.

Vivian's purrs almost carried to Elena through the water. "You like it when I work you, don't you, Porter?"

"Stop it." He was gritting his teeth, but he made no move to pull away. He looked pained, like the way he'd seemed atop the horse, and Elena supposed it was her fault for leaving him like this.

"You don't want me to stop," Vivian murmured as she pressed her lips to his, sticking her tongue into his mouth.

He didn't kiss her back, but he didn't pull away either. His eyes locked with Elena's, and for what seemed like an eternity, they just stared at each other. Elena's gut twisted inside her.

Vivian licked his neck and chin, pressed her breasts against his chest, and worked his cock under the water.

A muscle clenched in Porter's jaw, his eyes darkening with conflict and need, his biceps rippling as if he were fisting his hands under the water.

"You like her watching us, don't you?" Vivian breathed, lips pressed to his ear.

Porter was silent, and Elena felt her own desire pool down to her sex, felt her breasts sting and her hands ache from the desire to touch him. To be touched. Fucked.

"I want her." His voice was raw with emotion. "I want you, Elena." Elena's eyes widened as Vivian stilled and swung her head to eye her dubiously.

"You want her?"

Elena chose to ignore the derision in her sister's voice, instead lifted her chin up higher.

Vivian's slimmed gaze shifted from one to the other, finally settling on Elena. "Well. Do you want him, little sis?"

Elena couldn't speak, every inch of her focused on bringing air into her lungs, her breasts heaving at her efforts.

"Do you want Porter to fuck you?"
